Mission Statement
Confident in the knowledge that Christ is with us always, we, the members of St. John’s Lutheran Church, are called as disciples
of Christ to worship God, proclaim the Gospel, grow in our understanding of Holy Scripture, love one another, and share with others
God’s grace and blessings.
As a community of the people of God, St. John’s is called to minister to all people of the world, knowing that the world is
often an unloving place. Christ calls us to reconciliation and wholeness, and we are challenged by the Gospel to be agents of healing
within our society. We affirm that we welcome all persons regardless of race, gender, national origin, age or sexual orientation.
Ministering to Stamford and surrounding communities for over 100 years, St. John’s is one of 11,000 local congregations
of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Currently there are 560 baptized members in our congregation.
If you believe that Christians cannot practice faith alone, that it is a shared experience of fellowship with Christ, please
consider uniting with St. John’s. Those without previous affiliation with any church may profess their faith by being
baptized at St. John’s. Those coming from other churches are received by affirmation of faith throughout the year.
Lutherans believe a person is saved only by the grace of God in Christ.
